David Curtis explores Paul Moravec’s Nocturne
Orchestra of the Swan – Nocturne by Paul Moravec – world premiere
Nocturne by Paul Moravec was premièred on December 6, 2016, at Stratford ArtsHouse by Orchestra of the Swan.
Like Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante, Paul’s Nocturne fully exploits the range and individuality of the individual instruments, sometimes playing in consort, at other times in contrasting styles. Overall the work has a more lyrical quality than Haydn’s and Paul also exploits the expressive qualities of the cor anglais.
David Le Page – violin
Victoria Brawn – oboe/cor anglais
Philip Brookes – bassoon
Nick Stringfellow – cello
