Nashville Scene: Another “Amorisms” Review

Nashville Scene has a lengthy and thoughtful review of Paul Moravec’s Amorisms: “Alias Chamber Ensemble and Portara Ensemble’s new album gives composer Paul Moravec and Shakespeare their due”

The article describes the origin of the project:
“The inspiration for Amorisms came to Moravec after a visit to the Bard’s birthplace in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The work, which was jointly commissioned by Alias, Portara and Nashville Ballet, is based on some of Shakespeare’s most memorable lines about love. Moravec mostly set short phrases, such as “love is a spirit” from Venus and Adonis and “the course of true love” from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Portara’s vocalists, under the expert direction of Shreyas Patel, sing this music with color and vibrancy. Alias, for its part, provides sensitive accompaniment.”
